Show and Tell September 2004

We had a wonderful showing of quilts in September 2004. These are the quilts who's owners gave permission for us to show on the website. Every effort has been made to match up the show and tell slip with the picture. If I have gotten it wrong, please email me.

Dragon - Owned by Sharni Vaughan, Made by Carrie Oransky

Sharni writes: : "Carrie Oransky (our community service VP) made this for me when I had surgery recently. She knew that my family loved dragons and so on."

Diane C - Stacy and Tracy's Wedding Mini Quilts

Diane writes "I had a newphew, Jason, marry Stacey this last July 30th. On September 25th, my niece, Tracy, is getting married. I made these two mini quilts for the brides. The one with the black border is for Stacey. The mostly white one is for Tracy."

Strip Piecers Small Group - Something Old, Something New

The Strip Piecers write writes "The strip pieces small group consists of Pam Crocker, Stephanie Davis, Marieda Dudash, Beverly Geise, Lynette Maytubby, Jeanne Parker, Dianne Scott, Elaine Webber and Karen Woodward. (Mary Holt and Beth Little also donated blocks)."

"Two and a half years ago, Pam recieved a shipment of 10 old wedding dresses from the Making Memories Foundation for Breast Cancer. The Foundation sells donated wedding dresses to raise money for breast cancer. Damaged gowns are given out to make quilts from."

"We spent part of New Year's Day 2002 cutting them up in to chunks, and each of us taking a selection of pieces to sew. What great fun that was! We had quite a variety of fabrics, embellishments and frills to make into crazy quilt blocks. Trying to make enough different blocks nearly drove us crazy. The sashing and on-point setting helped make it big enough."

"The sashing, border, and backing were purchased to complete the quilt, which Pam Crocker quilted. We are sending it back to the Making Memories Foundation for a quilt contest next week. The Foundation sells these quilts for $2000 or more."

Karen Nelson - Sue's Sewing Room

Karen writes : "This was a quilt I made for the Moda Challenge. I was inspired by the wonderful Moda Fabrics and a book that had the sewing notions as paper pieced patterns. I quilted the quilt on my Gammill."

Lynette M - Chantecleer and Company

Lynette writes "This quilt is a pattern by Nancy Barrett. It was hand applique'd and machine pieced by Lynette M, and machine quilted by Joan M"

"My mother-in-law purchased this as a block of the month from her local quilt shop in California about 3 years ago. She always loved the pattern but never made it and decided to sell it. No one from her guild wanted to purchase it from her so I told her I would check with my small group to see if anyone was interested. I decided to buy it from her on a ruse that someone from my own guild wanted it and suprise her on her 65th birthday with it all complete."

She has no idea that I've made this for her but is coming into town tomorrow night and will recieve it then.

Connie Ryan - Lone Star

Connie writes "I started in class with Jan Krentz and it now hangs in my den."

Celia A - Triple 4-patch

Chris writes "This is a fabric exchange in my small group, the PAQs from 2002."

Anna Marie Connally - Ellie's Star

Anna writes "My newest granddaughter was born July 11th. This is the third quilt I have made for her."

Anna Marie Connally - Therapy in Session

Anna writes "The name of the quilt says it all. I will hang it in my studio."

Kimberly Wilshire - Red and White Lonestar

Kimberly writes "Many of you saw me start this back in February. The top is done, but it requires 10 plus yards to back it, so it may be a while before it is quilted. Maybe February 2005?"

Tracy S - Total Eclipse

Tracy writes "This quilt is from Quilt Asylum's Block Watcher class. The orange border was a bit much for the quilt until I turned it upside down and it 'eclipsed' the center. There is always more the one way to look at assembling a quilt."

Nancy Robinson - Covered Bridge Festival

Nancy writes "I bought this pattern (the bridges only) at AQS show in Paducah in 1999. For the last 4 year, I have been working on the bridges while I worked on a new layout, since I didn't like the pattern's layout. I finally completed the new layout earlier this year and now even have the place to hang the finished quilt!"

Dan Mills - Triangle Blues

Dan writes "There are 300 triangles in this little quilt. I hadn't gone far and I realised I needed a template. I had never used a template before so my solution was a floor tile. I bought one from Home Depot, cut with an old rotary cutter and my pocket knife. It worked great! The quilt is going to my sister's grandson."

Karen Woodward - Folk Art Sampler

Karen writes "Took this folk art class from Sandy Bonsit in October 2002 at the Houston Quilt Festival. This turned out to be a fun and easy class, but it still took me till now to get it finished."
